Participation of Mr Abdelhakim Mihoubi, Ambassador of Algeria in Luanda, in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Polisario Front.
The Ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria in Luanda, Mr. Abdelhakim Mihoubi, took part on 18 May 2023, on invitation of the Embassy of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic in Luanda, in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Polisario Front and the beginning of the armed struggle for the liberation of Western Sahara, at the headquarters of the Angolan Writers Association, in the Angolan capital, Luanda.
This event was attended by members of the Angolan Government, officials from the ruling party (the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola MPLA), officials from the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of Angolan civil society, Ambassadors from countries accredited to the Republic of Angola and supporters of the Saharawi cause and the right to self-determination of the Saharawi people (Cuba, Kenya, South Africa, Venezuela, Namibia and Zimbabwe).
The opening speech given by the President of the Angolan Writers' Union was marked by praise for the position of his country supporting the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination, underlining that the independence of the Republic of Angola will not be complete unless the decolonisation of Western Sahara is completed.
Next, the Ambassador of the Saharawi Republic in Luanda, Mr Hamdi El Khalil, made an intervention on the subject, in which he referred to the progress of the struggle of the Saharawi people for freedom and to developments in the Saharawi question at the level of the United Nations and the African Union, in particular the resolutions of the UN and the International Court of Justice which support the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and refute the Moroccan allegations.
A documentary film was shown which shows the various stages of the struggle of the Saharawi people for freedom.
